We are always told "You don't drink enough water!"  Here are some interesting facts on water, that may start you thinking why water is so important to us.

75% of the body is made up of water

 

80% of the brain is made up of water

 

75% of the muscles are made up of water

 

92% of the blood is made up of water

 

Water carries the nutrients and oxygen to all cells in the body

 

Water regulates the body temperature

 

 

Dehydration Facts:

 

1% dehydration results in thirst

 

There is a 10% decrease in your mental performance when you feel thirsty

 

2% dehydration reduces your ability to work

 

4% dehydration results in lethargy, apathy...

 

If you are dehydrated you are more likely to have trouble in concentrating, be more irritable and have more headaches

 

 

When hot:

 

It is important to drink after exercise, or if you have been sweating

 

The best drink for your body is water. Sports drinks are good if you exercise for more than 40 minutes. Milk and juice are healthy, but they contain calories. (Water has no calories.)

 

Fizzy drinks are not the healthiest choice and will actually make you dehydrate faster, so avoid these if you are doing a lot of sport.
